Learning Activities for Teachers

RTC was contracted by the USAID Basic Education Program in Kosovo to deliver three activities over a period of seven months. The purpose of the USAID BEP professional development program in assessment is to give every teacher in basic education (grades 1-9) an opportunity to benefit from a twenty-hour MEST-accredited basic course in assessment for learning (AfL).

RTC successfully delivered the following work and activities:

Activity 1: Learning Facilitator Preparation

•    We organised and coordinated twelve programs of professional development for facilitators in the municipalities of Decan, Gjakove, Gllogoc-Drenas, Istog, Malisheve, Mitrovice, Obliq (including Fushe Kosovo), Podujeve, Pristina, Rahovec, Shtime and Vushtrri
•    Responsibility for communicating with selected schools in these municipalities to prepare and provide to the BEP Assessment Team a list and detailed information of each participant
•    Negotiated detailed arrangements with the PDC coordinator for the use of the municipality facilities and the dates when the program with take place
•    Sent out invitations to selected schools to send two participants to attend the school facilitator preparation programme, and invited all teachers to participate in the school-based professional development delivered by facilitators
•    Contracted master facilitators as agreed with BEP Assessment Team
•    Implemented the necessary logistics during the course, delivered required materials and monitored attendance
•    Carried out basic quality-assurance of the delivery program by paying one monitoring visit to each program and subsequently reporting findings to BEP
•    Reported on each course which was appended to the relevant quarterly progress report

Activity 2: School-Based Professional Development in Large Municipalities

•    Supported the facilitators of 139 participating schools across thirteen “large” municipalities in carrying out professional development in Assessment Learning Centres

Activity 3: Professional Development in Small Municipalities

•    Supported facilitators selected by the BEP Assessment Team in carrying out professional development in AfL in three “small” municipalities
•    Gathered list of teachers from each participating school for participation in the AfL programme
•    Negotiated detailed arrangements with the PDC coordinator for the use of the facilities, and the dates when the programme was to take place
•    Made all necessary arrangements for the agreed courses, including contracting agreed facilitators
•    Invited selected participants
•    Implemented the required logistics during the course
•    Carried out quality-assurance in the delivery of the program and reported to the BEP
•    Arranged for the delivery of certificates to successful participants
•    Prepared brief report on each course which was appended to the relevant quarterly progress report
